Do you have Chromecast? If you don’t, you should. It’s not just TV, not just movies; it’s apps, music, games, and pictures. The list just keeps growing and it’s all for $35. The number of apps started at just two or three and has ballooned to include huge names like Vevo, Plex, Pandora, Hulu Plus, and many more. Not to mention, Chromecast works on both Andorid and iOS, so you don’t have to worry about device compatibility. And if that is not enough, Chromecast is travel friendly. Just unpack the dongle, plug into a TV wherever you are (provided there is internet access) and you can watch, listen to, and play all your favorites.
So what are the top ways you can use Chromecast? Streaming shows and movies, making it your home sound system, and turning your TV into a gaming system.
Streaming Shows and Movies
When most people hear “Chromecast” they automatically associate it with streaming TV, movies, and videos. As opposed to investing in a Smart TV, which can be glitchy, buying a Chromecast allows you to easily do all of this via your computer or Android tablet. At this point, based on cost and ease of use, Chromecast is the more user friendly and cost effective option.
Chromecast is also a great tool for turning your TV into a music library. Several apps, such as AllCast, Spotify, and Pandora are terrific for smooth music playback. Goodbye stereos, CD players, iPhone docks, and Bluetooth speakers, all you need is your TV!
Google currently has 70 games on Google Play built for use with Chromecast. When you can play games on your TV, it is easier and more fun for multiple people to play. Amadeus Consulting developed one of these games, MemoryCast. I may be slightly biased, but I have to say, MemoryCast is fun, challenging, and addictive. The game is like the old school Memory card game with some twists thrown in. My favorite is the Swap version. The cards change positions, so remembering where cards are to make matches becomes even more challenging. With the game cast on your TV, MemoryCast makes for the perfect game night! There are so many things you can do with Chromecast and the platform is still in it’s infancy. I’m excited to see how the Chromecast app market will grow.
